Brother Kills Sibling After False Rumors About Daughter's Pregnancy in Belagavi
BELAGAVI, India (AP) — In a tragic turn of events, a man has been murdered by his brother in the village of Kalloli in Belagavi district following a dispute fueled by false rumors about a daughter's pregnancy.
On September 4, 2024, Vittal Chouhan, 51, was declared dead at a private hospital in Belagavi after sustaining severe injuries from an attack by his brother, Bhimappa Chouhan. Bhimappa, along with his accomplice Lakshman Padatere, has been arrested by the Ghataprabha police, who are investigating the case.
The incident began when Bhimappa's daughter returned to her parental home after her marriage. She had eloped with a young man from a neighboring village, believing he was a government employee. After three months of marriage, she discovered that her husband was not employed as he had claimed.
Upon returning home, the daughter was subjected to false rumors spread by her uncle, Vittal Chouhan. Vittal falsely alleged that the daughter was pregnant. This misinformation infuriated Bhimappa, leading to a violent altercation between the two brothers.
On August 30, Bhimappa Chouhan and his gang attacked Vittal with rods and bricks. Vittal sustained critical injuries and was admitted to the private hospital in Belagavi, where he succumbed to his injuries on September 4.
The Ghataprabha police have registered a case and are further investigating the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
