BSF Chief Nitin Agarwal, Special DG Removed! What's The Reason Behind This Move?

New Delhi: In a significant administrative shake-up, the Ministry of Home Affairs has removed two top officials of the Border Security Force (BSF) on Friday. The central government has directed BSF Director General (DG) Nitin Agarwal and Special Director General (Special DG) YB Khurania to return to their respective state cadres with immediate effect.

Reason for Action Against BSF Officials

The BSF is tasked with guarding the sensitive India-Pakistan border, particularly in the Jammu region. However, over the past year, there has been a noticeable increase in terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir. This escalation in cross-border infiltration and terrorist attacks is believed to be the primary reason behind the government's decision to take action against these senior officials. In recent months, terrorist attacks have resulted in the loss of 22 lives, prompting the government to make significant administrative changes.

Background of Nitin Agarwal and YB Khurania

Nitin Agarwal, an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the 1989 batch from the Kerala cadre, was appointed as the BSF chief in June last year and was due to retire in July 2026. YB Khurania, a 1990 batch IPS officer from the Odisha cadre, served as the Special DG (West) of the BSF.

Future Prospects for YB Khurania

There is speculation that YB Khurania might be appointed as the Director General of Police (DGP) in Odisha, where the new Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government has recently assumed office. This potential new role would mark a significant shift in his career trajectory.

Additional Appointments

In a related development, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has appointed Amrit Mohan Prasad, an IPS officer of the 1989 batch from the Odisha cadre, as the Special DG of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

These moves come as part of the government's efforts to enhance security measures and address the increasing threats in the Jammu and Kashmir region. The reassignments are seen as a crucial step towards strengthening border security and tackling terrorism more effectively.
