CBI on Tuesday evening arrested an Indian Navy’s Commander-rank serving officer and two ex-officials on charges of leaking classified docs.

These documents pertain to an ongoing submarine project in lieu of illegal gratification.

Two other persons have also been arrested in this matter. The CBI however refused to reveal any details in this matter.

So far, more than 15 locations have been raided across Delhi, Mumbai, Noida and Hyderabad; the agency has recovered digital evidence from these places.

As per sources, the allegations pertain to the Commander discussing crucial details about the ongoing modernisation project of Kilo-class submarines with the two others.

The investigation is going on into the matter by the agency with complete support of the Indian Navy.

Also, an internal inquiry by the Navy is underway.

India operates eight Kilo class submarines. There are four HDW German origin submarines and three are Scorpene submarines built in India under technology transfer from France. The Indian navy also operates an indigenous nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine, INS Arihant.

Additionally, India is currently pursuing a project worth Rs 43,000 crore for building six advanced submarines under the strategic partnership model.

It will help bolster the Indian Navy’s underwater force levels while adding to the might of the country.
