CEC Rajiv Kumar Dismisses Claims of EVM Tampering, Asserts 100% Security

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar has strongly rejected allegations of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) tampering raised by the Congress party following the Haryana assembly elections. Kumar assured that EVMs are 100% foolproof and cannot be hacked or manipulated.

What Triggered the Allegations?

Congress claimed discrepancies in election results, linking them to varying battery strengths in EVMs. The party alleged that this caused manipulation in some constituencies, sparking a debate on the integrity of the voting system.

In response, Rajiv Kumar clarified

Battery Strength Irrelevance: EVMs use a single-use battery, similar to calculators, and their performance is unaffected by battery strength.
Transparency Measures: At every stage of EVM handling—from testing to sealing—political party representatives or agents are present to ensure transparency.
Rigorous Procedures: Detailed protocols safeguard the EVMs, making tampering virtually impossible.
Kumar stated, “EVMs are robust, and we have left no stone unturned to ensure their security and credibility.”

Election Commission’s Stance

The Election Commission has consistently maintained that EVMs are a reliable and secure means of voting. There is no evidence to support claims that battery strength impacts results or that EVMs are vulnerable to manipulation.

A Call for Confidence in EVMs

The Chief Election Commissioner’s firm rebuttal emphasizes the robustness and transparency of India’s electoral process. As debates over EVM integrity continue, the Election Commission remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring free and fair elections.
