Chhattisgarh Tragedy: 6 Dead, 7 Injured in Balod Road Accident – Truck Driver at Fault
A horrific road accident in Chhattisgarh's Balod district early Monday claimed six lives and left seven others injured. The accident occurred near Chaurahapawad on the Bhanupratappur-Dallirajhara road under the Dondi police station limits when a speeding truck, coming from the wrong direction, collided head-on with an SUV carrying passengers returning from a naming ceremony.
The crash was so severe that the SUV became mangled, trapping everyone inside. The passersby alerted the police, who, with immense difficulty, managed to extract the victims. Six people, including a child, four women, and a man, were pronounced dead at the scene. Seven others suffered serious injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals in Dondi and were later shifted to Rajnandgaon Medical College as their condition was serious.
Truck Driver Escaped the Scene
Police have confirmed the incident and said that the truck driver escaped from the scene after the accident. A search operation has been launched to catch the driver. The deceased and injured are locals of Gureda in the Gundardehi area.
Victims' Details
Among the dead are Durpat Prajapati (30), Sumitra Bai Kumbhkar (50), Manisha Kumbhkar (35), Sagun Bai Kumbhkar (50), Imla Bai Sinha (55), and Jignesh Kumbhkar (7). The injured are Jhamit Kumar (7), Bindeshwari Bai (35), Rukhmati Bai (60), Yuvaram Sahu (30), Rambha Bai, Ishwari Bai (61), and Kumari Bai (55).
Investigation Ongoing
ASP Ashok Joshi stated that an in-depth inquiry is still being conducted and the truck driver is being taken to task. The local authorities are advising the drivers to follow traffic rules in order to prevent such a tragic mishap.
