Chhattisgarh Encounter: In a major anti-Naxalite operation, the security forces in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district on Monday neutralized 10 Naxalites in an intense gun battle in the thick Korajuguda, Dantewada, Nagaram, and Bhandarpadar forests. The encounter took place earlier today, and the AK-47 rifles, SLRs, and other weapons were recovered from the dead bodies of the slain insurgents.
Bastar Range Inspector General Sundarraj P confirmed that the operation occurred and said that the success in the counter-insurgency operations in the region has been satisfactory. He said, "Between January and November 2024, security forces had killed 257 Naxalites, apprehended 861, and facilitated the surrender of 789 others.".
Credible intelligence had been received that there were Maoist operatives in the area. The encounter took place when teams of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) exchanged thick volumes of fire with the insurgents. The identities of the Naxalites killed are yet to be ascertained.
The state has intensified its operations against Naxal activities, with a focused aim at eradicating insurgency by 2026. Recently, the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, met Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai to discuss developmental initiatives in Naxal-affected areas and strengthen peace efforts.
This latest operation underlines the government's determination in dealing with insurgency and bringing stability to the region.
