How the Incident Came to Light
The incident occurred at the Kasturba Gandhi Residential School in Podi village, run by the Tribal Development Department. On Tuesday, the hostel superintendent, Jai Kumari Ratre, was informed that the student was unwell. Upon investigation, a newborn baby was discovered on the campus after other hostel residents reported hearing a baby’s cries.
Student Confesses to Throwing the Baby Out of the Washroom Window
According to reports, the student admitted to delivering the baby late Monday night and throwing it out of the washroom window. This horrifying act has raised questions about the lack of monitoring and support at the hostel.
Baby’s Condition: Critical Care Required
The baby, suffering from severe injuries, is currently admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Korba Medical College and Hospital. Pediatrician Dr. Rakesh Verma stated that the baby has injuries on the left lung and remains in critical condition.
Administrative Action Taken
Korba Collector Ajit Vasant suspended the hostel superintendent for negligence, citing her failure to notice the girl’s pregnancy and take preventive action. Further investigations by the Health and Women & Child Welfare Departments are underway.
