Santokh Singh Chaudhary, a Congress MP from Jalandhar, died during the party’s Bharat Jodo Yatra on Saturday morning in Punjab’s Phillaur. He suddenly fell unwell as his heartbeat increased while he was walking along with Rahul Gandhi in the yatra.
Chaudhary was rushed to Phagwara’s Virk hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. After hearing the news, Rahul Gandhi left the yatra and rushed to the hospital. The Bharat Jodo Yatra has been suspended for the day.
Meanwhile, Congress’ Bharat Jodo Yatra began on September 7, 2022 from Kanyakumari and will end on January 30 in Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann took to Twitter to condole the demise of the Congress MP.
He wrote, “I am deeply saddened by the untimely death of Congress Member of Parliament from Jalandhar, Santokh Singh Chowdhury.. May God rest his soul in peace.”
Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh also offered his condolences and said, “Extremely saddened to hear about the sudden demise of MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary ji due to a heart attack today. My heartfelt condolences are with his entire family in their time of grief. May Waheguru Ji grant eternal peace to the departed soul.”
