Days before the Assembly polls, senior Congress leader PC Chacko abruptly left the party on March 10, 2021. He held groupism and absence of the democracy in the party responsible for his decision.
His resignation comes at a time when the party is preparing itself for Assembly polls in Kerala. The assembly polls are scheduled to take place next month.

In the second half of the day on March 10, 2021, he announced that he had left Congress and had sent resignation to the party president Sonia Gandhi.
Former Trissur MP PC Chacko, 74, was among heavyweight leaders of the Congress. He represented the party in Kerala.
“There is no democracy left in the Congress. The list of candidates has not been discussed with the state Congress committee. I have sent my resignation to Sonia Gandhi,” he said.
“Being a Congressman is Kerala is very difficult. If you belong to some faction in the Congress only then you can survive. The leadership of the Congress is not much active,” he added.
