Congress, SP, TMC Unite to Support No-Confidence Motion Against Rajya Sabha Speaker Jagdeep Dhankhar
The Winter Session of Parliament witnessed disruptions in both Houses. Opposition MPs have raised charges of political bias against the functioning of the House by Speaker of Rajya Sabha Jagdeep Dhankhar. According to reports, the opposition is now making plans to get a no-confidence motion against Speaker. Several MPs reportedly gave an in-principle nod for this action.
Sources suggest that the INDIA opposition alliance intends to bring the no-confidence motion through Article 67(B) of the Constitution, stating that the Speaker runs the House in a particular way. The motion that would have significant support comes at a time when it has already received support from main opposition parties such as Trinamool Congress (TMC), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and Samajwadi Party (SP).
Opposition claims that the Speaker has been favoring the ruling government throughout, which is growing the discontent among MPs. Members of TMC, AAP, SP, and other constituents of the INDIA alliance are said to have signed in favor of the motion.
