Crane Cable Breaks on Badrinath-Kedarnath Motor Bridge, One Dead, Another Critically Injured
A tragic accident occurred late Saturday night on the motor bridge connecting Badrinath and Kedarnath in Uttarakhand when a crane cable snapped. One worker lost his life on the spot, while another was critically injured and is currently undergoing treatment at AIIMS Rishikesh. The motor bridge is part of a construction project by Bharat Construction Company, which is also responsible for building a nearby tunnel.
Workers Accuse Company of Negligence
Workers claimed the accident was caused by negligence on the part of the company’s Assistant General Manager (AGM). They alleged that safety measures were inadequate, and workers were forced to work under unsafe conditions. According to the workers, the AGM insisted on using a trolley without proper safety arrangements, leading to the crane’s chain snapping and two workers falling.
No Support for Victims' Families
The deceased and the injured worker, both residents of Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, received no immediate support from the company, according to the workers. This lack of action has prompted the victims' families to file complaints with the police.
Police Investigation Underway
Despite the severity of the incident, workers accused the police of inaction, claiming no substantial steps have been taken against the company. Authorities have stated that an investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of the accident and address the allegations of negligence.
