With the heavy gale-force winds, fetching rain and high tidal waves the entire coastal belt of Kerala, Karnataka and Goa is swept by the cyclone Tauktae.
Tauktae is now hurtling northwards towards Gujarat Sunday. It has left at least five persons dead while damaging several houses.
As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Tauktae has intensified into a ‘very severe cyclonic storm’. And it is likely to intensify further during the next 24 hours and reach the Gujarat coast by Monday evening.
Over 1.5 lakh people are being shifted from in Gujarat from the low-lying coastal areas. Moreover, 54 NDRF teams and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been deployed in the State.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also held a meeting on the preparations to face the severe cyclonic storm Tauktae.
Also, the water level in many dams across Kerala has risen after heavy rain in the catchment areas.
The gusty winds are also affecting the power supply in several areas. Furthermore, the National Crisis Management Committee met on Sunday in Delhi.
