Cyclone Tauktae has intensified into a cyclonic storm: IMD

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Cyclone Tauktae has intensified into a cyclonic storm.

The western coast of India braces for the cyclone to make landfall.
The Indian Navy has also assured the state administrations of their support.

There is a red alert sounded in five districts of Kerala namely Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Pathanamitta and Ernakulam.

Moreover, they have deployed National Disaster Response Force in affected areas of the state.

The IMD though had forecasted the storm to intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm with wind speed of 150 to 160kmph by May 17.

The cyclone is likely to reach the Gujarat coast by May 18 morning. Mumbai and Thane too have been put under the yellow category storm warning by the IMD.
