Dalbir Kaur, the well-known name in India and Pakistan, sister of Sarabjit Singh who languished in Pak jail after being sentenced to death for spying in 1991 died of a heart attack on Saturday.

Sarabjit Singh, her brother had passed away in 2013 in Lahore. His sister was seeking justice for her late brother.

Her last rites took place at Bhikhiwind in Punjab. Notably, Sarbjit Singh was a farmer from Bhikhiwind in Punjab. It is situated near the India-Pakistan border. He mistakenly crossed over the border after having a couple of drinks and that’s when he got into trouble. Later, he was sentenced to death by a Pakistan court in 1991.

Sarabjit Singh was kept in the Kot Lakhpat jail of Lahore for 22 years and later he was beaten up by his inmates.

Singh was declared dead by doctors at Lahore’s Jinnah Hospital due to severe injuries in the head after an attack on him on the jail premises in 2013.

During his 22 years in jail, his elder sister Dalbir Kaur fought for him and sought his release from Pakistan’s jail.

She also went to Pakistan to see her brother. Moreover, the Ministry of External Affairs also asked the Pakistani government to conduct a probe into Sarabjit Singh’s death.
