Delhi Chief Minister Atishi recently inspected the new fleet of Mohalla Buses at the Kushak Nala Depot. A part of the Delhi government's plan to revolutionize public transport and improve last-mile connectivity throughout the city, the buses are going to be an added feature.
The government plans 150 electric Mohalla Buses to operate in the next two weeks. The buses will be used in densely populated areas where large buses cannot reach every corner of the city. "The buses will be game-changers for last-mile connectivity, which was a major problem in previously underserved areas by the traditional public transport," Atishi said.
Mohalla buses are electric, low-floor, and designed to be efficient and accessible. They carry modern amenities and can cover up to 200 kilometers on a single one-hour charge. They are part of the overall initiative by the government to promote sustainable transport options in Delhi.
The Delhi government is also committed to improving public transportation and, in this regard, the launching of Mohalla Buses is bound to increase connectivity in the city considerably. It further aligns with the city's aim of reducing traffic congestion and air pollution by promoting eco-friendly modes of transport.
Within the next three years, the government in Delhi plans to deploy 2,140 Mohalla Buses throughout the city. By 2025, the connectivity of every colony in the national capital with the larger public transport network will be provided. Such a bold project aims to create the capital as a model for the country in urban transport systems. The Mohalla Bus would then form an integral part of it.
Atishi’s inspection of the buses highlighted the modern features and efficiency of these vehicles, which will soon become an integral part of Delhi’s public transport system. With their ability to navigate narrow lanes and crowded areas, the buses are expected to ease the mobility challenges faced by many residents.
The Delhi government is optimistic that the Mohalla Buses will improve the quality of life of the residents, reduce traffic congestion, and promote a cleaner environment. With the rollout of the first phase of the project, citizens can look forward to a more connected and sustainable transportation network.
