Former AAP councillor and 2020 Delhi riots accused Tahir Hussain on Wednesday launched his election campaign in Mustafabad under police custody. This is after the Supreme Court granted him six-day custody parole to allow him to campaign with strict restrictions.

Hussain, who is contesting the Delhi Assembly Election 2025 on an AIMIM ticket, was taken out of Tihar Jail at 6 am and brought to his election office on Mustafabad's 25-Foota Road, where he met supporters and interacted with local residents. His campaign activities are being closely monitored by armed security personnel.

Supreme Court Grants Strict Parole Conditions

The Supreme Court gave him custody parole from January 29 to February 3, allowing him to canvass for 12 hours each day (6 am to 6 pm) under police surveillance. Still, he cannot go to his Karawal Nagar residence, a locality associated with the 2020 riots, nor can he make any public remarks about the continuing cases against him.

A Supreme Court bench, which included Justices Vikram Nath, Sanjay Karol, and Sandeep Mehta, also directed that Hussain shall pay ₹2.47 lakh a day to take care of his police escort and security arrangements.
