Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor Ready for Trial Run

The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut section of the Namo Bharat high-speed rail corridor is now ready for trial runs, marking a significant advancement in India’s rapid rail infrastructure. The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) confirmed that the electrified stretch between New Ashok Nagar and Sarai Kale Khan is fully operational for high-speed testing.

Electrification Completed Between New Ashok Nagar and Sarai Kale Khan

This segment has been equipped with a 25-kilovolt Overhead Equipment (OHE) system, which will support trains running at speeds up to 180 kmph. The power supply originates from the Sarai Kale Khan Receiving Substation, supported by Delhi Transco Limited and Gas Turbine Power Station (GTPS). Currently, power is routed through the Ghaziabad RSS.

OHE Infrastructure to Enable Faster Services

The OHE infrastructure includes poles and cantilevers tailored for high-speed trains. This section is vital to the Delhi segment’s operational readiness and is expected to significantly improve the efficiency and frequency of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat services.

Sarai Kale Khan Station to Become a Major Transit Hub

The Sarai Kale Khan station is being transformed into a key interchange point in the corridor. It features:

  • 4 tracks and 6 platforms

  • 5 entry/exit points

  • 14 lifts and 18 escalators

  • Multiple staircases for efficient passenger movement

  • A 215m-long, 50m-wide, 15m-tall structure for large crowds

This makes the station one of the most modern and well-equipped hubs in the region.

📍 Current Route Status

At present, Namo Bharat trains are running between New Ashok Nagar and Meerut South, covering 11 stations across a 55 km route. The completion of the Delhi segment paves the way for full corridor operations in the near future.
