Delhi High Court Blasts AAP: ₹2,026 Crore Liquor Scam Exposed Ahead of Elections!

The Delhi High Court has rebuked the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Delhi government for delaying the submission of a Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report on the ongoing liquor policy scam. The scam, which has already led to the arrests of former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia, has brought intense scrutiny to the Delhi government’s excise policy.

High Court Questions Delhi Government’s Intentions

Justice Sachin Datta, expressing dissatisfaction, stated that the government’s delay in forwarding the report to the Assembly Speaker raised serious questions about its intentions. The court remarked, “The way you’ve been dragging your feet is unfortunate. You should have promptly sent the reports to the Speaker and facilitated a discussion on the Assembly floor.”

The BJP, represented by MLAs including Vijender Gupta, has petitioned for a special session of the Delhi Assembly to discuss the CAG report. However, the court noted that with elections around the corner, convening a special session may not be feasible.

CAG Report Highlights Massive Revenue Loss

The CAG report on Delhi’s excise policy revealed a staggering revenue loss of ₹2,026 crore to the state exchequer. The findings pointed to several irregularities, including deviations from the policy’s objectives, lack of transparency in pricing, and violations in issuing licenses.

Key losses outlined in the report include ₹890 crore due to the government’s failure to re-tender surrendered licenses and ₹941 crore lost due to exemptions granted to zonal licenses. The report also highlighted that licenses were issued without ensuring compliance with excise rules, such as verifying financial solvency, criminal antecedents, and sales data.

AAP Denies Allegations Amid Escalating Political Tensions

AAP MP Sanjay Singh dismissed the CAG report’s findings, alleging that the BJP was using fabricated information to discredit the Delhi government. He further accused the BJP of violating the Model Code of Conduct by spreading “fake news” ahead of the February 5 Assembly elections.

The BJP has intensified its attacks on AAP, citing the CAG report as evidence of corruption. The opposition also highlighted controversies such as the renovation costs of Kejriwal’s residence, which reportedly escalated from ₹8 crore to ₹32 crore.

Political Heat Rises Ahead of Delhi Polls

As the Delhi Assembly’s tenure nears its end in February, political rivalry between AAP and BJP has intensified. BJP MLAs have repeatedly accused the AAP government of corruption, citing the liquor scam and other issues, including alleged irregularities in the Yamuna river cleaning project.

With elections fast approaching, the liquor scam and its financial implications have become central to the political debate in the capital. The court’s insistence on accountability and transparency in tabling the CAG report adds further pressure on the AAP government to address these allegations.
