Delhi to Meerut in 40 Minutes: PM Modi Rides the Namo Bharat Train, Highlights Key Corridor Features
The prime minister on Tuesday inaugurated a section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut "Namo Bharat" Corridor, a quantum leap in the country's transport infrastructure. He took the fast rail from Sahibabad to New Ashok Nagar. Now, with the rapid rail, the time between Delhi and Meerut is 40 minutes, a journey earlier taken by over four hours. The key features of the Corridor are
Length and Cost: The inaugurated stretch is 13 km from Sahibabad to New Ashok Nagar, built at a cost of ₹4,600 crore. The whole 82 km corridor is likely to be completed by June 2025.
Phased Implementation
October 2023: The first phase (Sahibabad to Duhai Depot, 17 km) was inaugurated.
March 2024: The second phase (Duhai to Modinagar North, 17 km) started.
August 2024: Services were extended to Meerut South station.
Fare Structure
New Ashok Nagar to Sahibabad: ₹50 for 13 km (2 stations).
Sahibabad to Meerut South: ₹110 for 42 km (9 stations).
New Ashok Nagar to Meerut South: ₹150 for 55 km (11 stations).
PM Modi Interaction with Students
During his visit, PM Modi met school children, appreciated their paintings, and discussed various issues with them. The rapid rail corridor will reduce travel time by one-third, ensuring a smooth and faster connectivity for commuters between Delhi and Meerut.
