Disgraceful To See Democratic Bangladesh Turning Theocratic: Sadhguru Comes Out Strong Against Arrest of Hindu Monk
November 25, 2024: Sadhguru has expressed grave concern over the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Prabhu, a monk protesting against atrocities faced by Hindus in Bangladesh. His arrest highlights the continuing series of attacks and persecution endured by the Hindu community in the country.
In a statement on X, Sadhguru said, "It is disgraceful to see how a democratic nation is disintegrating to become theocratic and autocratic. It is the responsibility of every citizen to understand the value of having an open democracy. Persecution on the basis of religion or weakness of demographics is not the way of democratic nations. Unfortunately, our neighborhood has slipped away from democratic principles.”

“It should be the responsibility of every citizen of Bangladesh to build back a democratic nation where all citizens will have the needed rights and ability to fulfill their lives as per their requirements and belief,” noted Sadhguru.
Sadhguru has consistently voiced his support for the safety and dignity of Bangladeshi Hindus. Earlier, he had shared, “The atrocities being perpetrated against Hindus is not just an internal matter of #Bangladesh. Bharat cannot be Maha-Bharat if we do not stand up and act at the earliest to ensure the safety of minorities in our neighborhood. What was part of this Nation unfortunately became neighborhood, but it is our responsibility to protect these people -who actually belong to this Civilization- from these shocking atrocities.”
In another post, Sadhguru had stressed the importance of preventing extremism from taking root. He stated, “Unfortunate realities of our neighbourhood. Let us ensure religious extremism never takes charge of our Beloved Bharat.”
Sadhguru has repeatedly called for measures to safeguard the lives and dignity of Bangladeshi Hindus, emphasising that the ongoing violence—marked by targeted attacks, destruction of temples, and systemic marginalisation—represents a humanitarian crisis and also a deep erosion of democratic values.
Incidents of mob violence, arson, and desecration of Hindu temples have surged across Bangladesh. Minority communities have faced intimidation, displacement, and assault, with little recourse to justice.
Festivals and religious gatherings have become targets for violence, leaving many in fear of practising their faith openly. The arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Prabhu, who was peacefully protesting against these atrocities, underscores the growing climate of intolerance and the urgent need for action to ensure safety and equality for all citizens.
