Eknath Shinde Statement: Fadnavis Gives Major Update on Maharashtra Government Formation After Shinde
After Eknath Shinde's statement, BJP leaders are elated. State BJP President Chandrashekhar Bawankule expressed gratitude, praising Shinde's leadership and his role in advancing Maharashtra with Deputy CMs Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar.
In the wake of political speculation surrounding Maharashtra's new Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde's latest statement has opened up a path for Devendra Fadnavis to likely take on the role. Talking about the discussions that have been going on, Fadnavis said that there have never been any differences within the Mahayuti (grand alliance).
Eknath Shinde Statement for Devendra Fadnavis
We have always made collective decisions, he said. Fadnavis clarified that, as had been promised before the elections, the Chief Ministerial decision would be taken collectively by all parties after the results. His remarks came after Shinde cleared the air, affirming that he would fully support whichever candidate the BJP central leadership chose for the post. BJP senior leader also dismissed concerns among a few party members over the chief minister's position, affirming that Shinde's statement had brought an end to all speculations. We will soon meet our leaders and finalize the decision, said Fadnavis while making it clear that the Shiv Sena faction backing Shinde will give the BJP nominee CM full support.

NCP leader Ajit Pawar said that the three significant leaders—Fadnavis, Shinde and himself—would be camping in Delhi for further talk on government formation. Further deliberations would be made here to decide the structure of this new government that would boast a single Chief Minister and two deputy chief ministers.

Eknath Shinde, the caretaker CM of Maharashtra, formally withdrew his name from the running for CM. Shinde indicated that he is willing to accept whatever decision the BJP high command takes and confirmed to support the party's decision. This has paved the way for Devendra Fadnavis to make a comeback as Maharashtra Chief Minister, just like the last time between 2014 and 2019.
Shinde's statement came after the BJP won 132 seats in the state assembly elections, with a total of 235 seats when allied with other parties. Although there was speculation in the initial stages, Shinde ruled out any disagreement within the alliance and said that he will decide on Fadnavis's return during a meeting in Delhi with BJP's top leadership, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
