The rebel Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra on Thursday. For the post of deputy CM, BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis took the oath.
Earlier in the day, both Fadnavis and Shinde met the state Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari at Raj Bhawan. The final decision on government formation was reached at the Raj Bhawan.
The now deputy CM Fadnavis had claimed rampant corruption during the rule of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government.
During the press briefing, Eknath Shinde spoke at length how the BJP, with 106 MLAs and independents, has the support of 120 MLAs.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis on his swearing-in as the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
BJP president J P Nadda said that the central leadership has directed Fadnavis to be a part of the Eknath Shinde-led government as the state’s deputy CM.
