Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Tamil Nadu interacted and danced with the students of a Higher Secondary School in Kanyakumari.

Mr Gandhi danced along with Congress’s Tamil Nadu in-charge Dinesh Gundu Rao, state party chief KS Alagiri and school students. We also saw his video of push-ups going viral.

Rahul Gandhi also made a big statement. He said that the Emergency imposed by former prime minister Indira Gandhi was a mistake.

A virtual conversation with Professor Kaushik Basu of Cornwell University in the US was going on. And Rahul Gandhi reiterated that what happened during that period was wrong, but it was fundamentally different from the current scenario, as Congress at no point attempted to capture the country’s institutional framework.

I think that was a mistake. Absolutely, that was a mistake. And my grandmother (Indira Gandhi) said as much,” he said.

Emergency in India by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was there for a 21-month period from 1975 to 1977.

Rahul Gandhi further added that his party has never abused India’s institutional framework.

The Congress leader further said that he had to face criticism from Congress leaders for demanding elections at the Youth Congress and NSUI levels.

He, however, wondered why nobody raises questions on BJP, BSP and SP regarding lack of internal democracy.
