Senior Congress leader and former Himachal Pradesh CM Virbhadra Singh passed away in Shimla in the wee hours of Thursday after a prolonged illness. He was 87.
Singh breathed his last at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) at 3.40 am, as per reports. He had tested positive for COVID-19 for second time in two months.
Virbhadra Singh was a nine-time MLA and five-time MP. He had also served as Himachal Pradesh’s CM for six times. In 1962 he entered Lok Sabha and repeated that success in the 1967 and 1971 elections.
Virbhadra Singh had also served as Himachal Pradesh Congress president in 1977, 1979, 1980 and from 26th August, 2012 to December 2012.
He belonged to royal family of Bushahr in Shimla district. Singh is survived by wife Pratibha Singh, son Vikramaditya Singh and four daughters.
