Excise Policy Case: The Delhi High Court has dismissed the anticipatory bail plea of the Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal in the money laundering case related to the excise policy. The court refused to stay further proceedings in the lower court, where Kejriwal is facing charges filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
The High Court even sought ED's response on the petition filed by the AAP convenor Kejriwal challenging the order of the lower court regarding cognizance of the chargesheet filed by the ED.
The lawyer for Kejriwal argued in the High Court on November 20 that the lower court's decision to take cognizance of the chargesheet was wrong because it did not come with prior sanction for prosecution, as insisted upon by law for any public servant. Kejriwal also told the court that all the offences allegedly committed were during his period as a public servant.
Earlier on November 12, the high court had sought a response from the ED to another plea filed by Kejriwal challenging summons issued by the agency. But at this juncture, the court declined to stall further proceedings. Kejriwal had been granted interim bail in the money laundering case on July 12.
This is another chapter in the high-profile case as Kejriwal continues to contest the allegations.
