Prime Minister Modi-led BJP government is preparing to repeal the three contentious farm laws in the upcoming winter session.
The government has begun its efforts to bring in a consensus over various issues. Also, PM Modi is expected to attend an all-party meeting.
In order to avoid a chaotic session, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu will meet the floor leaders of all parties.
As both, the Houses saw unruly scenes during the Monsoon Session.
LS Speaker Om Birla called for urgent action and said, “We will discuss this with the leaders of all political parties if necessary, and expect that the proceedings of the House will pass off smoothly.” He was addressing the concluding session of the 82nd All India Presiding Officers’ Conference (AIPOC) in Shimla.
This winter session will begin on November 29 and be concluded by December 23.
Moreover, the Opposition is likely to support the demands of farmers for legislation on Minimum Support Price (MSP).
But for this, the government has not agreed yet. The agitating farmers have also refused to call off their protests unless the government agrees to their remaining demands.
Apart from the MSP, the other five demands of the protesting farmers are withdrawal of the Electricity Amendment Bill, scrapping of provisions of fines for stubble burning in the Commission for Air Quality Management law, withdrawing the cases against farmers registered during the protests in different states.
They are also demanding the suspension and arrest of Union Minister Ajay Mishra Teni. Furthermore, they are asking for land for a Shaheed Smriti Smarak at the Singhu border.
