Farmers March to Delhi Today: Claim to Surround Capital with 4 Lakh Tractors, Internet Shutdown in Ambala
Farmer protests continue to escalate with protest at the borders of Punjab and Haryana going past 307 days. Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM)-flagbed farmers have been seeking a meeting with the Centre over a few contentious issues, most notably MSP. As the situation turns volatile, the Haryana government has stopped mobile internet and bulk SMS in 12 villages of Ambala till December 17 to keep public order in place.
Farmers March from Shambhu Border
101 farmers will start marching towards Delhi from Shambhu Border on Saturday, December 14. The protest has been resurfaced. The KMM leader, Sarwan Singh Pandher, said the government did nothing regarding farmers' demands and added that it was making an attempt to defame the movement.
Bajrang Punia in Support of the Farmers' March; SC Steps In
Wrestler and Congress Kisan Morcha President Bajrang Punia has joined the protest at Shambhu Border to express solidarity with the farmers. The Supreme Court has stepped into the case of farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who had begun a hunger strike on November 26, urging the central and Punjab governments to provide him with medical assistance.
Demands of Farmers and Plans of Delhi Encirclement
Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait has warned of surrounding Delhi’s KMP Expressway with over 4 lakh tractors if their demands are not met. He stated that 11 key points outside the capital would be blocked to pressure the government into action.
Tensions at Borders
Earlier attempts at trying to cross the border, on December 6 and 8, also broke into clashes with the Police of Ambala over at the Ghaggar Bridge as police used tear gas to clear demonstrators who have been camping at Shambhu and Khanauri borders months under the banners of both Samyukt Kisan Morcha and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha.
