Farmers Hold Political Power, Shouldn't Rely on Others – Vice President

Vice President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar, recently attended the Akhil Mewar Jat Mahasabha in Chittorgarh. While addressing the gathering, he emphasized that farmers are the backbone of the nation and should not depend on anyone for help. He encouraged them to engage in trade and business related to agricultural products.
Farmers Should Leverage Their Political and Economic Strength
Dhankhar stated that farmers have significant political and economic power. He urged them to focus on their growth and avoid relying on external aid. He highlighted that the role of farmers in India’s economic progress cannot be underestimated. Despite challenges, he asserted that no obstacles could hinder the contributions of farmers to the country’s development.
"The government today respects and values the farmers. They must realize their strength and play a key role in India's progress," he added.
Farmers Should Explore Agribusiness and Dairy Sector
The Vice President stressed the importance of agribusiness and value addition in agricultural products. He questioned why farmers are not benefiting from their own produce, especially when industries based on agricultural products, such as flour mills and oil mills, are thriving.
"Farmers should focus on dairy farming. Growth in the dairy sector excites me. They should not limit themselves to just milk, curd, or buttermilk. Farmers should expand into value-added dairy products like paneer, ice cream, and sweets," he suggested.
Agriculture is the Most Valuable Trade
Dhankhar encouraged young people to enter the agricultural business. He described agriculture as the world’s largest and most valuable trade, urging farmers and their families to become active participants in the industry.
"Our young generation is highly talented. I request all farmers to take advantage of cooperative farming and engage in agriculture-based businesses to enhance their income," he said.
Reservation Beneficiaries Should Acknowledge Past Efforts
Reflecting on the Jat reservation movement from 25 years ago, Dhankhar recalled the struggle for social justice and how it led to significant representation in government services. He reminded those who have benefited from reservations to acknowledge and appreciate the efforts that made it possible.
"Those who have gained from reservation should look back and remember the sacrifices made. The Jat community's peaceful movement is a global example of social justice without violence," he noted.
Farmers Must Utilize Agricultural Science Centers
Dhankhar urged farmers to make use of over 730 Agricultural Science Centers (Krishi Vigyan Kendras) in India. He advised them to visit these centers regularly to learn about new farming technologies and government policies that could benefit them.
"If farmers start engaging with these centers, officials will become more active. Farmers should take charge, seek knowledge, and ensure they get the benefits they deserve," he concluded.
Vice President Dhankhar's address highlighted the need for farmers to be self-reliant and proactive in economic growth. He stressed agribusiness opportunities, the power of cooperative farming, and the importance of modern farming techniques. By leveraging their political and economic influence, farmers can play a crucial role in India's journey toward becoming a developed nation.
