From Affordable Flats to World Trade Center: PM Modi's ₹4,300 Crore Gift to Delhi
Anticipating the assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated and launched ₹4,300-crore worth of development projects in Delhi on January 3, 2025. Notable among these are the distribution of 1,675 "Swabhiman Flats" to poor families in Ashok Vihar, the opening of the World Trade Center in Nauroji Nagar, Type-II quarters for government employees in Sarojini Nagar, and the CBSE Integrated Office Complex in Dwarka.
Boost for Delhi University
PM Modi also laid the foundation stones for three projects of Delhi University worth over ₹600 crore. These include Veer Savarkar College in Roshanpura, the eastern campus in Surajmal Vihar, and the western campus in Dwarka.
Empowering the Underprivileged
During the event, PM Modi met students and inspected the newly built flats. He handed over keys to families and said, "These are homes of self-respect, new dreams, and hope." The projects clearly highlight the government's focus on economic and infrastructural empowerment ahead of elections.
A Strategic Move
With BJP in power at the Center for 10 years but waiting for a comeback in Delhi since 1998, these projects are a significant step to strengthen its position in the capital. BJP has also launched a campaign with the slogan, "Delhi Chali Modi Ke Saath," highlighting recent development efforts.
