From Matrimonial Match to Crime: Couple Date Leads to Shocking Turn of Events In Ghaziabad, Leaves Police Puzzled

From Matrimonial Match to Crime: A shocking incident unfolded in Ghaziabad after an accountant, Ashutosh, met a woman he connected with on a matrimonial site. The woman invited him to a restaurant in the RDC area, where they ordered a simple meal and hookah. However, the bill handed to Ashutosh totaled an exorbitant ₹34,397.

When Ashutosh questioned the amount and sought a detailed breakdown, staff members of the restaurant, coupled with the woman, have threatened and misbehaved with him. They forced him to pay the bill via UPI under duress. Much later, Ashutosh filed an email complaint with the police alleging that the restaurant was overcharging and intimidating him.

The Ghaziabad Police have filed a case against the restaurant owner and are investigating the matter. Ashutosh said that he does not think the money spent on the items ordered was worth the bill they were given, and this could be part of some larger scam targeting unsuspecting people.

This is the second such incident in this area. A similar case has been reported in November as well when a student had been extorted and also assaulted after being presented a ₹38,000 bill at a café in Rajnagar. Authorities have closed down that shop upon the complaint.

DCP City Rajesh Kumar said an investigation has been initiated and appropriate action would be taken against them. The case raises some red flags about restaurant scamming and dating scams with the victims being trapped by some for financial exploitation.
