Stunt Gone Wrong: Five Held on Ghaziabad's Hindon Elevated Road for Causing Havoc during a Wedding Procession

Ghaziabad – A dazzling display of car stunts that brought traffic to a grinding halt left five men in the grip of cops as they were indulging in car stunts and firecrackers on the Hindon Elevated Road on Sunday night. The five are reportedly between 23 and 32 years of age, and were a part of a wedding procession headed from Khoda Colony to Nandgram. Fortunately, police were already there in the locality in advance for Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's procession, which was to pass through the locality soon.

Detentions and Charges

The five are locals of Khoda, Loni, and Dadri. ACP Indirapuram Swatantra Singh revealed this. "They were arrested on the flyover as the chief minister's convoy was likely to pass in the next half hour," Singh said. They were produced in court on Monday and have been sent to judicial custody. All five men, who run local shops, have been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code for endangering people's lives and obstructing public places.

Viral Video and Vehicle Seizure

A video of the incident, which has gone viral online, captures the groom riding in an open-top vintage car, flanked by a convoy of modified vehicles. The procession consisted of two Mahindra Scorpios, a bright yellow Mahindra Thar, a Nissan Jonga, and a Maruti Suzuki Swift-all of which have since been seized by police. According to eyewitnesses, fireworks, including rockets, were launched from the rooftops of the SUVs, further exacerbating the disruption.

A HISTORY OF DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR ON HINDON ELEVATED ROAD

For all, the elevated road across this stretch of around 10 kilometer runs from Raj Nagar Extension towards UP Gate. Prior, it became a paradise of troubles and frolic with open fun-lovers getting along with fun and pleasure-loving habitants coming to assemble along and on Hindon Elevated Road. Reports in TOI showed that last year had lots of vacant liquor bottle dumping and carefree nuisance spread across most of places that were prone to misuse through reckless misuse.

A more alarming incident occurred in 2022 when 18 individuals were arrested after they brought their cars to a stop in the middle of the road to dance, pass out cake, and engage in other obnoxious behavior. These traffic and safety disruptions led authorities to install 45 CCTV cameras along the elevated road in March 2023 to enhance security and deter such acts.

Police Response and Safety Measures

While accidents have decreased since the CCTV installation, haphazard driving and public danger is still an issue. In this connection, the Ghaziabad police have reiterated their determination to keep the elevated road free from chaos and ensuring security. They also intend to enhance the number of patrol units and monitor the footage of CCTV cameras in a bid to prevent such occurrences from happening again.

Public Response and Demand for Action

The other recent incident of disruptions caused by wayward behavior on public roads has triggered frustration amid daily commuters and residents. Many have been speaking out for stricter penalties on enforcement, calling for holding of those who misuse the elevated road for stunts or the celebration of events. Further, authorities are looking forward to further measures such as increasing penalties for traffic-related offenses and scaling up on real-time surveillance during rush hours.

This arrest has brought before the eyes the issue of road misuse, particularly in such high-profile areas like Hindon Elevated Road. By being stricter and responsible, authorities aim to provide safer space for users and hopefully put an end to risky displays on public infrastructure.
