Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh: The Wave City Police in Ghaziabad have arrested six individuals, including three policemen stationed in Ghaziabad, Hapur, and Agra, along with a Samajwadi Party leader from Meerut, in connection with a fraud case.

DCP Dehat S.N. Tiwari and ACP Wave City Poonam Mishra reported that one of the accused, Mohd. Shadab, a resident of Nyay Khand, was allegedly duped by his brother-in-law, Mohtaram, a resident of Lohianagar, Meerut. Mohtaram, along with his father Mohd. Arif, friend Nadeem from Aseelpur, Meerut, and three policemen—Anil Kumar from Hapur, Sachin Kumar from Agra, and Sanjay Kumar from Ankur Vihar, Ghaziabad—allegedly conspired to defraud Shadab.

The Trust Betrayed

The plot unfolded when Mohtaram convinced his brother-in-law Shadab that he could exchange Indian currency for double the amount in Dubai currency. Believing him, Shadab and his brother Mehraj handed over a total of ₹8.5 lakh to Mohtaram. Mohtaram added ₹4 lakh of his own and claimed they would receive Dubai currency worth ₹12.5 lakh. This ruse gained the trust of Shadab and Mehraj.

However, on Thursday, after receiving the money near Dasna Cut, the accused fled the scene. Shadab initially reported the incident to the police as a robbery, but under intense questioning, the true nature of the currency exchange scam came to light.

Arrests and Recovery

Following the investigation, the police registered a case and apprehended the accused near Wave City on Friday morning. The authorities recovered ₹4.36 lakh from the arrested individuals.

Among those arrested is Nadeem, identified as a leader of the Samajwadi Party. Nadeem has a criminal background, with two cases of attempted murder and violations of the Arms Act filed against him in Meerut, as well as a case of issuing death threats registered in Ghaziabad.

The police are continuing their investigation to uncover further details of the conspiracy and to determine if more individuals were involved in the scam.
