India's 'Haunted' Village, A Place Where No One Lives

It is in the Tuticorin district of Tamil Nadu: a village called Meenakshipuram, which was once an in-tandem developing small town and now an eery collection of ruins. A number of stories have gone around about this small town. Some have believed this village to be haunted. The others believed that there must be some sort of a curse.

The village acquired a haunting reputation when the villagers began to die one after another mysteriously. In the end, everyone deserted their homes due to the fear of being murdered. Some believe that an angry curse of the village deity led to this village being deserted.
Ruins and Natural Disaster. Another theory has it that it was a victim of a natural calamity, perhaps a tsunami or earthquake, though none of these facts are substantiated. Historians assert that it was once an inhabited town but is now a desolate wasteland with remains of fallen houses.
Ghost Tourism and Lack of Facilities
Though this place is infamous, adventure lovers come to see Meenakshipuram and feel its haunted air. Hotels and guesthouses are available for the visitors, close by. Water scarcity and other basic facilities totally deserted the village and left it completely deserted by 2018.

Views of Former Residents
A former resident recollected the hardships: "There were no facilities—no proper roads, water or healthcare. So, leaving was the only option." As the village boasts of having two temples which draw thousands of devotees in festivities, its last school constructed in 2015 too lies in shambled state due to total carelessness.
