Gods Awaiting Justics : Lord Kuber’s 38-Year Stint in Jail Thanks to Bureaucratic Blunders!

It seems even divine entities are not immune to India’s infamous bureaucratic maze! In what can only be described as a bizarre turn of events, Lord Kuber, the deity of wealth, has been ‘imprisoned’ in a police station in Jharkhand’s Palamu for 38 long years. Yes, you heard that right—God is literally behind bars, and the reason? Lost paperwork and legal hurdles.

Here’s how it all started: Back in 1986, thieves stole the idol of Lord Kuber and his guards, Jai and Vijay, from the 152-year-old Panchmukhi Temple in Vishrampur village. The police, being efficient for a change, caught the thieves and recovered the idols. But in a cruel twist of fate, instead of returning the deity to its rightful place in the temple, Lord Kuber was taken into police custody—yes, you read that correctly—due to a series of legal tangles and missing documents.

The temple priest, Achyutanand Pandey, has made 14 trips to court in an attempt to free the deity, but his appeals have fallen on deaf ears. The court demands written proof that Pandey is indeed the rightful custodian of the idol. Talk about a divine custody battle!

The cherry on top? In 2008, a fire at the police station destroyed all documents related to the theft and recovery of the idol. This has left the police clueless on how to release the detained deity, as there are no records left to reference. So, while Lord Kuber is supposed to be blessing his devotees with wealth, he’s stuck in a police station’s storeroom, waiting for his release papers.

Local devotees are understandably frustrated. “All we want is for our idols to return to the temple. Is that too much to ask?” one villager quipped. Meanwhile, the authorities are playing the blame game, with officials pointing to the lost documents as the reason for the delay.

As absurd as this whole situation sounds, it highlights a deeper issue—the sluggishness of our legal and administrative systems, where even gods can’t escape the red tape. Until the paperwork gods smile down upon this case, it looks like Lord Kuber will continue his 38-year (and counting) staycation in police custody.

In the meantime, the devotees can only pray that justice, divine or otherwise, prevails soon!
