Google Maps Misdirection Leads: A recent incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur has highlighted the potential risks of blindly relying on navigation apps. Two men traveling by car to a friend’s house ended up stranded in a field due to a wrong turn suggested by Google Maps. When they sought help, the situation took a turn for the worse.

How It Started: A Wrong Turn into a Field

Two residents of Meerut, Firoz and Naushad, were on their way to Muzaffarnagar to meet a friend. They followed the location sent by their friend and used Google Maps for guidance. After crossing a toll plaza near the Muzaffarnagar-Saharanpur border, the app led them onto a path that ended in a wheat field. Their car got stuck, and despite repeated attempts, they couldn’t get it out.

Calling for Help Leads to Trouble

Seeing two men on a bike nearby, they requested help. The bikers initially agreed and promised to return with another person. A short while later, the bikers came back with a third man. Together, they helped push the car out of the field and onto the highway.

Theft on the Highway

As soon as the car reached the highway, the men who had offered help drove off with Firoz’s WagonR. The victims quickly reported the incident to the police using the emergency helpline number, but the suspects were nowhere to be found.

Police Investigation Underway

According to police officer Ravi Kant Parashar, the victims have filed a complaint. The police are currently examining nearby CCTV footage to identify the culprits and understand how the theft unfolded.
