Bangalore-based Google tech engineer Arpit Bhayani recently claimed in a LinkedIn post that he was denied parking just because he asked the person in front to give way in Hindi. This incident has given a new twist to the ongoing debate about languages in India. After this, he wrote that "Now the time has come to make English a compulsory language in India", because most people already prefer to communicate in this language.
Demand to Make English a Compulsory Language of India
Arpit wrote in his post, "Today I was denied parking just because I asked for way in Hindi. I have no problem with this, but think - are you teaching your children in regional language schools, or in English medium?" He said that today's new generation thinks and types in English only. In such a situation, if everyone knows the same language, then everyday life can become easier.
Bhayani Said – The Debate on Language Should End
Bhayani wrote, "I am not forcing anyone to speak English, but if everyone knows this language a little bit, then what is the problem? Today our biggest problem is that we fight over language, while the focus should be on real issues – like infrastructure, education, employment, research and cleanliness."
Today, I was denied parking just because I asked the person to move aside in Hindi 🤦♂️ I'm okay with what happened, but hear me out, folks...

To everyone talking about preserving language and culture, whether in Maharashtra, Karnataka, or any other state, are you actually…
Debate and Reactions on Social Media
After this post, people have different reactions. Someone asked – "If you are promoting English, then why did you not say it in English instead of Hindi?" Arpit replied, "I said it in English too, but as soon as the other person heard Hindi, he got angry. I did not escalate the debate, just parked the car a little distance away and finished the work." Another user wrote – "This is madness, refusing parking just for speaking Hindi?" At the same time, some people also agreed with Bhayani – "At least someone said this."
Language Dispute Has Arisen in Karnataka Earlier Also
Recently, an officer of SBI Bank was also transferred due to language dispute. In the viral video, it was seen that the officer was refusing to talk to the customer in Kannada. The Chief Minister of Karnataka also reacted to this and the officer was removed from that branch. Arpit Bhayani says that if everyone in India knows a little bit of a common language (like English), then the debates and everyday conflicts will reduce. He also said that leaving the politics of language, we should focus on the development of the country.
