Gujarat's Banas Kantha Businessman Fakes Death for ₹1.23 Crore Insurance, Replaces Body with Corpse from Grave

In a shocking case from Gujarat's Banaskantha district, a debt-ridden hotelier tried to make an insurance claim of ₹1.23 crore by faking his own death. He planned to dig up a corpse from a grave and burn it in a car to make it look like his body. However, the Banaskantha Police unwound the intricate plan, which seemed to be a scene straight out of a crime thriller.

How the Case Unfolded

Burnt Car and a 'Confirmed' Identity

Vadgam police received a call that a car was on fire. The driver was burnt beyond recognition.

Preliminary checks on the car's registration revealed that it belonged to Dalpat Singh Parmar. His family confirmed that the remains were his.

Forensic Evidence Raises Questions

Though all the confirmations had been done, some suspicious clues at the spot led the police to send samples for forensic analysis.

Lab tests revealed that the body did not belong to Dalpat's DNA, casting a doubt over the identity of the deceased.

Siblings Detained

The three accomplices of Dalpat who assisted him in his plan were detained during the investigations.

Police found that Dalpat had incurred considerable debts after investing heavily in a hotel.

In an attempt to clear loans by using insurance money, Dalpat planned to disappear until his family received the payout.

Body Exhumed from Grave

Banaskantha SP Akshayraj Makwana reported that Dalpat had exhumed the body of a man who had died four months ago.

The body was put in the driver's seat, and the car was burnt to create an impression of Dalpat's 'death.'

Brother and Other Relatives Involved

The family reportedly planned to keep Dalpat underground until the insurance claim got processed.

Other relatives, Dalpat's brother among them, knew about the plan and supported it.

On the Run Manhunt Continues

The main accused is Dalpat himself, who has gone underground at the moment. Police have increased efforts to trace him, and details of the case are likely to emerge as investigation unfolds.
