Prisoners Escape During Ramlila Performance in Haridwar

In a dramatic turn of events at Roshanabad Jail, Haridwar, two prisoners—Pankaj and Ramkumar—escaped while performing in a Ramlila play. Both were playing the roles of monkeys and used the excuse of searching for Sita to leave the stage. As the audience enjoyed the performance, the prisoners found an opportunity to flee. When the prison staff noticed their absence, a search began, but by then, the prisoners had already escaped.

Prisoner Background: One Serving Life Sentence for Murder

Pankaj Kumar, serving a life sentence for murder, and Ramkumar, whose case was still in court, made their escape using a ladder left behind due to ongoing construction work inside the jail. The prison authorities are facing heavy criticism for negligence, as the escape would not have been possible without the availability of the ladder. The incident has raised questions about security lapses within the prison.

Search Underway Amidst Police and Jail Administration Criticism

After the escape, police and jail administration have come under scrutiny for their lack of diligence. Pankaj is a resident of Roorkee, and Ramkumar hails from Gonda, Uttar Pradesh. Both law enforcement agencies are working tirelessly to locate the fugitives. The authorities are under pressure to apprehend the escaped prisoners and prevent further lapses in prison security, with efforts ongoing to ensure they are caught as soon as possible.
