The apex court Wednesday rejected a plea seeking action against former J&K chief minister Farooq Abdullah. The plea was against his comments on scrapping of Article 370 The court said that it was not sedition to have views different from the government.
The judgement said, “The expression of a view that is different from that of the government cannot be termed sedition.”
The petitioners had taken exception to Abdullah’s comments on the Central government’s 2019 decision to scrap Article 370. The article conferred special status on the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.
National Conference on the other hand denies these sedition charges. According to the party, its chief has never spoken any such ill will.
