The leader of the YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP), Y.S. Sharmila, was detained by the Hyderabad City Police on November 29 after calling for a gherao at the Pragati Bhavan, the Chief Minister’s camp office in Panjagutta, in protest of the events surrounding her padayatra in Warangal on November 28.
Ms. Sharmila and a large group of her supporters intended to gather at Pragati Bhavan. While a number of them were held by the police outside the Bhavan, Ms. Sharrmila, who was driving the SUV that the TRS activists in Warangal had vandalised, remained behind the wheel and locked the vehicle from the inside.

Police tried numerous times to pull her out of the car, but she resisted. The SUV was then connected to a tow truck, dragged by officials for almost 4 kilometres till it arrived at the SR Nagar police station.
A number of protestors gathered to oppose the police action, which added to the tense atmosphere at the police station.

On November 28,
She was sent to Narsampet after being imprisoned in Lingagiri Village, Chennaraopeta Mandal, Warangal (rural) District.
During her padayatra, Ms. Sharmila criticized the local MLA P. Sudarshan Reddy harshly and raised concerns about his source of money. In retaliation for her comments, TRS activists set Ms. Sharmila’s caravan on fire and vandalized her SUV.
