Himanta Biswa Sarma takes oath as 15th Chief Minister of Assam

Himanta Biswa Sarma was sworn in as the 15th Chief Minister of Assam on May 10, 2021. Governor Jagdish Mukhi administered the oath days after the announcement of election results in the state.

After taking oath as the 15th Chief Minister of the state, Sarma promised to raise Assam to one of five top Indian states in the coming five years.

He also appealed to the ULFA(I) chief Paresh Barua to give up violence and resolve the problem through dialogue by joining the discussion table.

Sarma, who wore traditional ‘pat silk’ dhoti and kurta, took the oath of office and secrecy in Assamese. Besides him, 13 other legislators also took oath as ministers.

Sarma, who has implemented many important development schemes in Assam in the last five years, is considered the most influential politician in Northeastern India.
