How one sleeping student created chaos on an American Airlines flight to Delhi

Published Date:

A person on an American Airlines flight between New York and New Delhi is believed to have urinated on another male passenger while intoxicated, sources stated on Sunday.
Flight AA292, which allegedly involved in the incident, departed from New York at 9:16 p.m. on Friday and arrived in Delhi at 10:12 p.m. on Saturday after travelling for 14 hours and 26 minutes.

“The defendant attends a US university. He urinated while dozing off since he was intoxicated. It somehow leaked and fell on another traveller, who reported it to the crew “In the airport, a source stated.

After the student apologised, the male victim said he was hesitant to go to the police because it might jeopardise his career. The airline, however, took it seriously and reported it to the IGI airport’s Air Traffic Control (ATC).

The pilot reported the event to the ATC when the crew informed them of it. The ATC then informed the CISF, who then informed the Delhi Police and handed over the accused passenger.

“When the problem was discovered, the CISF and the airline’s internal security staff got to work. As soon as the plane touched down, the suspect was arrested. The statements of the parties in question are being recorded by the police.”

According to the Civil Aviation Rules, if a passenger engages in disorderly conduct, in addition to facing legal repercussions, he will be prohibited from flying for a specific amount of time, depending on the severity of the offence.

This is the second time in recent months that a person has urinated on another passenger while intoxicated. An essentially identical event occurred on an Air India flight between New York and Delhi on November 26. Shankar Mishra is accused of peeing on an elderly woman while intoxicated.

A media story that was published about a month after the occurrence led to the filing of a FIR and the arrest of Mishra. After being detained for almost a month, he was freed on bail.

For failing to disclose the occurrence within 12 hours after the incident, as required by law, Air India was fined 30 lakh by the DGCA. Mishra has been prohibited from flying for four months as the Delhi Police looks into the situation.
