IMD Issues Red Alert for Mumbai, predicts heavy rain in next 4 days

IMD Issues Red Alert for Mumbai after Southwest Monsoon hits Maharashtra coast

The Konkan Kinarpatti including Mumbai is likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall for the next 4 days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said while issuing red and yellow alerts for the region.

The alert from IMD comes at a time when various districts in Konkan Kinarpatti are under the monsoon.

“The Konkan Kinarpatti including Mumbai may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall for next 4 days,” Shubhangi Bhute, scientist, IMD Mumbai said.

As heavy rain started in the financial capital of the country, the IMD announced the arrival of southwest monsoon in Mumbai.

The heavy rainfall reportedly caused water-logging in some low-lying areas of the city, while the local trains were running unaffectedly.

“It’s monsoon arrival in Mumbai today,” Dr Jayanta Sarkar, head of the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Mumbai office, said.
