The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday forecasted thunderstorms with light to moderate intensity in parts of UP. This will be over the course of the next 1-2 hours.

The IMD has also issued an alert for heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms and lightning. It will be in parts of West Bengal and isolated rains in Odisha and Chhattisgarh. This comes because of a cyclonic formation adjoining the northeast Bay of Bengal.

There will be very heavy to heavy rainfall in most of east India and adjoining central India. Moreover, an underlying low-pressure area has formed over north Bay of Bengal and its neighbourhood around June 11, as per IMD.

The Met department in its bulletin explained that a cyclonic circulation lies over east-central and adjoining the northeast Bay of Bengal at middle tropospheric levels. This forms the low-pressure area under its influence.
