IMD Issues Severe Cold and Storm Warning for 7 States, Snowfall Expected
As winter begins to settle in, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for severe cold and stormy weather across several regions in the coming week. Starting around October 24, cold northwestern winds from Pakistan are expected to enter India, resulting in snowfall in the hilly regions of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir. Plains like Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh will experience frost and chilly winds.
Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar are also expected to see a significant drop in temperatures, with daytime temperatures expected to decrease by 7-8°C. Meanwhile, a cyclonic circulation developing in the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal will cause stormy winds and heavy rainfall in states like Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka.
Cold Wave and Storm Alert
The IMD has warned that regions in northern and central India will experience an early onset of winter, with frost in Punjab and Haryana, and snowfall in Jammu & Kashmir. Heavy rain and stormy winds are expected in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and parts of Maharashtra due to a low-pressure system forming in the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea.
Delhi is already witnessing cooler mornings and evenings, with the AQI levels indicating poor air quality. The capital’s temperature is expected to drop further over the next week. In Jammu & Kashmir, the temperature has already plunged to -5.41°C, with heavy snowfall forecast for four days next week.
