India begins unlocking states/UTs as coronavirus cases go further down

India has now been reporting a downward trajectory in coronavirus cases. The second wave peak has passed and cases have fallen below 1 lakh in the past few days. India reported 60,471 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours.

This takes the total tally of coronavirus cases to 2,95,70,881. While the daily positivity rate declined to 3.45 per cent, as per the Union Health Ministry data updated on Tuesday.

India has now begun the process of unlocking. But several states/UTs are also preparing for a possible third wave of Coronavirus infections.

Health experts have already warned of a possible sudden spike in Covid-19 cases.

Therefore, vaccination is being provided to as many people as possible in the country. Delhi, UP, MP, and Maharashtra are among the major states where gradual unlocking has begun amid Covid restrictions.

As per the Union Health Ministry, recovery rate has increased to 95.64 per cent. Weekly Positivity Rate has dropped to less than 5 per cent.

Moreover, PM Narendra Modi at G7 sought support for the proposal moved by India and South Africa for a temporary global waiver on patent protection for Covid-19 vaccines.

Highlighting India’s ‘whole of society’ approach to fight the pandemic, conveyed the message of humanity above all.

Mr Modi also committed India’s support for improving global health governance.
