As India celebrates its 73rd Army Day, Union Ministers Rajnath Singh and Amit Shah on Friday greeted the personnel of Indian Army.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted his greetings on Friday, thanking the army for its services and sacrifices to the nation.
Significance of Indian Army Day
Army Day is celebrated every year on January 15. In 1949, on this day Indian Army got its first army chief Lieutenant General KM Cariappa. General (later Field Marshal) KM Cariappa was appointed as Commander-in-Chief of Indian Army on January 15, 1949.
He became the first Indian to be appointed as Commander-in-Chief, taking over the reins of Indian Army from General Sir Francis Butcher, the last British Commander-in-Chief of India.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also took a moment to thank the fearless spirit of the Indian Army on microblogging platform Twitter.
Additional Directorate General of Public Information, IHQ of MoD (Army) also tweeted a video on the day to hail our army’s resilience and courage towards the nation.
For this year 2021, the Indian Army has organized a marathon -Vijay Run- to ‘commemorate Swarnim Vijay Varsh’ celebrations of India’s big victory over Pakistan in 1971.
