Professor Ali Khan Mahmudabad has been arrested for posting on social media on the India-Pakistan conflict. Haryana Police has made this arrest on the basis of complaint by local resident Yogesh. A case has been registered against Professor Ali Khan under the section of inciting hatred between two communities.

Haryana police has registered a case against Professor Ali Khan under sections 196 (1)B, 197 (1)C, 152 and 299 of the Indian Penal Code. But this is not the only such case. Cases have been registered against people in different states of the country for allegedly pro-Pakistan social media posts.

Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh Police has arrested around 30 people from 18 districts. Cases have been registered in Gorakhpur, Bareilly, Lakhimpur Kheri, Baghpat and Badaun. According to Badaun Police, action has been taken against a total of nine people for posting objectionable posts.

Mohammad Sajid was arrested from Bareilly on May 11 for allegedly posting 'Pakistan Zindabad'. Apart from Bareilly, cases have been registered against Sameer Ali and Abdul Aashiq in Lakhimpur Kheri. A case has been registered against Usman Zahid in Baghpat for allegedly posting objectionable posts. A case was registered in Meerut in western UP on May 7. Under this, a salon owner Zaid and his partner were accused of posting a 'pro-Pakistan' post on social media.

On May 10, the Kotwali police of Muzaffarnagar district filed a report against a man named Anwar Jameel on similar charges. Local DSP Raju Kumar Sao confirmed the case to the The Vocal News. He said that after a video went viral and a complaint was made about it, a case has been registered against Anwar Jameel.

On May 16, a case of alleged support to Pakistan has come to light in the Chhatari area of ​​Bulandshahr district in western Uttar Pradesh. Police station in-charge Sandeep Kumar confirmed this to The Vocal News. He said, "A case has been filed against Ansar Siddiqui for posting in support of Pakistan and he has been sent to jail."

On May 17, two youths were arrested in Sherkot, Bijnor, western UP, on the complaint of Sub Inspector Gaurav Kumar. Sherkot police station in-charge Pushpendra Kumar told, "Abu Saad, a youth resident of Balkishanpur village, had posted a Pakistan-supported post from his Instagram account. During investigation, the name of another youth from the village, Hamza, has also come to light."

On May 16, a report was filed against a youth named Shahbaz in Seohara area of ​​Bijnor. The youth is accused of posting 'pro-Pakistan' post.

Assam

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is continuously giving information about the arrests on the social media platform X. According to CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, 71 people have been arrested so far in Assam.

The name of All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MLA Aminul Islam from Dhing assembly constituency is also included in this list. On April 23, Aminul Islam was accused of making controversial remarks regarding the Pahalgam attack. The next day, he was arrested by Nagaon Police of Assam. Later, the District Court of Nagaon granted bail to Islam in the case but shortly after getting bail, he was taken into custody under the National Security Act (NSA).

Apart from Aminul Islam, 71 people including Rupsan Ali, Rashid Mandal, Raju Sheikh, Abdul Hussain, Rashid Ahmed, Azad Imran Hussain, Abdul Samad, Shahdad Ali and Shaheen Ahmed Majumdar have been arrested in Assam. CM Sarma says that Assam Police is strictly monitoring the digital space and no one will be spared.

Jammu and Kashmir

Jammu and Kashmir Police had detained Hilal Mir on charges of promoting 'disaffection' and 'separatist ideology' against India through his social media accounts.

In a statement on May 7, the Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) wing of the Jammu and Kashmir police said, "Hilal Mir, a resident of Bemina in Srinagar, was detained for 'inciting the sentiments of youth and inciting separatist sentiments by showing Kashmiris being oppressed by the system' through social media. Mir worked with Turkey's Anadolu news agency."

Hilal Mir has worked as a journalist in different institutions. A close friend of Mir has told The Vocal Newsthat now the police have released him. A journalist from Srinagar, on the condition of anonymity, told The Vocal News that he had received a call from a top police officer in which he was asked to remove his post on Facebook. After the call, the journalist removed the post from his timeline.

The journalist said that he had allegedly posted a photo of the demolished house of an extremist's family. After the Pahalgam attack, a joint team of security forces demolished some houses in Kashmir. No official statement was issued by the police or any other agency in this regard.

One of the houses that was demolished belonged to Adil Hussain Thokar, whose name had cropped up in the Pahalgam attack. Police have officially named three 'terrorists' involved in the Pahalgam attack, including Adil.

Madhya Pradesh

At least seven people have been arrested in Madhya Pradesh on charges of disturbing communal harmony through social media and protests. The Damoh police of the state had registered a case against two accused named Wasim Khan and Tanveer Qureshi on April 23 for spreading communal tension. Waseem Khan had posted the 'controversial' post on his Facebook page on April 22, while Tanveer had allegedly made objectionable comments in support of that post.

Action has been taken in a similar case in Jabalpur. On the complaint of a person named Abhay Srivastava, the district police arrested a person named Mohammad Osaf Khan on charges of making inflammatory and hateful comments. A case was registered against Osaf under Section 196 (1) (a) of the Indian Penal Code (BNS).

A case was also registered against Naseem Bano, a guest lecturer at Adarsh ​​Mahavidyalaya in Dindori district, for hurting religious sentiments. It is alleged that she had posted a video related to the Pahalgam attack on her WhatsApp status. Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad workers had protested in this matter. Slogans of 'Pakistan Zindabad' were reportedly heard during a protest against the Pahalgam attack in Indore, Madhya Pradesh on 25 April.

After the video went viral, the police took action and detained Congress councillor Anwar Qadri and another person on Friday. Sadar Bazaar police station chief Yashwant Barole said, "Based on the viral video of the protest in the Badwali Chowki area, a case has been registered under Section 196(1)(b) of the Indian Penal Code. Technical experts are being consulted to verify the authenticity of the video. Further action will be taken after the investigation is complete."

Meanwhile, Congress councilor Anwar Qadri had said before his arrest that the video had been tampered with. 25-year-old Sameer Pathan has been arrested in Banmor town of Morena district of Madhya Pradesh for allegedly posting pro-Pakistan posts. The police have registered a case on the complaint of a person named Devendra Singh. According to the complainant Devendra Singh, on May 12, he had written in a post to boost the morale of the soldiers and the public - Pakistan will be wiped out tonight.

On this post, Pathan had allegedly made pro-Pakistan comments inciting religious sentiments. After the video of the staff of the metro construction company surfaced in Indore, the police have arrested a young man. It is being claimed that slogans of 'Pakistan Zindabad' were allegedly raised in this video. The name of the accused is Mohammad Javed and he belongs to Bihar.

Chhattisgarh

Luzina Khan, a woman who raised questions on social media about 'Operation Sindoor' in Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh, was arrested last week. After the post, Bajrang Dal protested in front of the police station in Raipur and demanded the arrest of Luzina Khan.

When the controversy grew, Luzina Khan deleted her post and wrote in another post, "I am proud of the bravery of the Indian Army. I had posted something inadvertently and by mistake, on rereading which I realized my mistake and I deleted that post immediately. If my post has hurt people's sentiments, then I sincerely apologize. I am proud of being an Indian and proud of the Indian Army."

Luzina Khan is a young photographer. She was also honored by the then Chief Minister Raman Singh in the BJP government in 2016. She has 1.23 lakh followers on Instagram.

Meghalaya

Two minors have been arrested in Meghalaya's North Garo Hills district for allegedly supporting Pakistan on social media. The accused are allegedly charged with posting anti-India videos.

Meghalaya Police informed the media on Sunday that both the accused were detained from different villages under the Bajengdoba police station area. According to the police, he posted a video on Facebook in which he was allegedly seen raising slogans against India and supporting Pakistan in the Garo language.

The district administration has registered a case against both of them on the basis of the preliminary complaint lodged on May 15. Earlier, a week after the Pahalgam attack, a man was arrested in East Khasi Hills district for posting 'hate content' on his Facebook page. In this way, a total of three people have been arrested in Meghalaya.

Karnataka

A person named Munir Khan Qureshi was arrested in Kolar, Karnataka. Apart from this, no other case has been reported from the state. Munir had posted a video. In this video, he had linked the Pahalgam attack to the assembly elections in Bihar.

Munir Khan was produced before a local court. The court released him on bail of Rs 2 lakh as he was a habitual offender and also a mentally unstable person. In another case of inflammatory social media post, a man alleged that RSS workers attacked and set on fire the house of the in-laws of Colonel Sofia Qureshi in Gokak tehsil of Belagavi district.

The police took suo motu cognizance and registered a case against the accused, including two people who supported the post. Later it was found out that the accused was in Canada.

Tashvarudha Farooq Shaikh, a final year student at a dental college in Vijayapura, is accused of posting a post on social media. In this post, the citizens living in Pakistan were told that "People living within 200 kilometers of the border please go to your country. May Allah save us from India, Amen."

He had also posted a Pakistani flag with the post. After criticism, he apologized and said that he is an Indian. A police officer told The Vocal News, "Since the punishment for this crime is less than three years, a notice has been issued to him. We are waiting for the government's approval for further action."

Mangaluru police have also registered a case against a doctor-dietitian. He is alleged to have justified the Pahalgam attack by making inflammatory statements. The accused, Dr. Afeefa Fatima, was booked for promoting enmity between different groups on the basis of religion, caste, place of birth, residence, language etc.
