India Elected to GlobE Member: India Joins 15-Member Committee of Global Anti-Corruption Community

In a significant move, India has been elected to the 15-member committee of the Global Anti-Corruption Community (GlobE) following a multi-tiered voting process in Beijing, China. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) announced this development on Thursday, September 26. As a member of the operational committee, India is poised to play a crucial role in shaping the global agenda against corruption and asset recovery.

India's expertise and experience in tackling corruption will be invaluable to the GlobE network. This platform represents a vital avenue for international collaboration aimed at addressing cross-border financial crimes and corruption. India’s involvement in the GlobE network is expected to strengthen its efforts in combating these issues.

With this inclusion, the GlobE network now comprises 121 countries and 219 member authorities. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) serves as the central authority for the GlobE network, with the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) representing India as member authorities.

The 15-member committee of GlobE is part of a global operational network for anti-corruption law enforcement agencies, initiated as a G20 initiative. India endorsed this initiative in 2020, and the GlobE network was officially launched during a special session of the United Nations General Assembly focused on combating corruption (UNGASS) on June 3, 2021. The GlobE network has emerged as a unique platform where agencies worldwide share best practices and criminal intelligence, collaborate, and develop strategies to combat corruption.

To provide leadership within the network, there is a president, a vice president, and 13 operational committee members. During India's G20 presidency in 2020, two high-level principles were adopted to combat corruption, detailing how the GlobE network could be effectively utilized.

This election signifies a pivotal step for India as it enhances its global role in anti-corruption initiatives and reinforces its commitment to fostering international cooperation in this critical area.
