India Gate Basmati Rice Recalled: High Pesticide Levels Pose Health Risks to Kidneys and Liver

New Delhi India Gate Basmati rice, a popular brand from KRBL Limited, has been recalled from the market after it was found to contain higher-than-acceptable levels of pesticides. Health authorities have warned that consuming this rice could potentially impact the kidneys and liver.

The recall follows tests that detected excessive amounts of two harmful pesticides—Thiamethoxam and Isoprothiolane—in the rice. These chemicals, used in agricultural practices, can pose serious health risks when consumed in large quantities over time. If ingested, they may lead to long-term damage to the kidneys and liver.

Immediate Recall and Customer Advisory

KRBL Limited, the manufacturer of India Gate Basmati rice, has initiated a voluntary recall of the product from stores. The company has advised consumers who purchased the Super Value packet of India Gate Basmati rice to return it immediately.

The affected product was packed in January 2024 and carries an expiry date of December 2025. Consumers who purchased this batch are urged not to consume the rice and follow the company’s return policy for a refund or exchange.

Health Impact of Pesticide Consumption

Experts have highlighted the risks associated with excessive pesticide consumption. Pesticides like Thiamethoxam and Isoprothiolane, while commonly used to protect crops, can have adverse effects on human health when present in food products in higher quantities. Prolonged exposure to these chemicals has been linked to damage to vital organs, particularly the kidneys and liver, as they work to filter toxins from the body.

Authorities have also called for stricter monitoring of food safety standards to prevent future incidents, emphasizing the need for thorough testing before products reach consumers.

KRBL Limited’s swift recall of the India Gate Basmati rice serves as a reminder of the importance of food safety and the potential risks of pesticide contamination. Consumers are advised to remain cautious and check their purchases for affected batches to avoid any health risks.
